FareCompare.com reported that three major airlines – American Airlines, U.S. Airways and Delta Air Lines – have raised fares as much as $10 each way, just in time for your last minute ticket buying for holiday travel. It is not clear if the increases will stick beyond the holidays as it was reported that increases like these at this time are often rolled back if other airlines — like Southwest — don’t match them. Why? Because travelers will book elsewhere if one airline’s tickets cost more than others.

FareCompare.com reported that they had counted 12 attempted fare increases by U.S. airlines in 2013, but says only three of those have lasted long term.
